This month’s Featured Fit Dad is Stephone. A father to his son, Jace, Stephone defines taking fitness to a new level. Just check out the videos on his Instagram account. He’s a personal trainer who incorporates some pretty amazing HIIT routines into his workouts that make you want to go that much harder in your next workout!
Stephone’s ability to inspire others to go harder than they have before is one of the reason he’s this month’s Featured Fit Dad.
Here is Stephone’s story:
When did you first get into fitness?
I first REALLY got into fitness at then end of 2013. I have always been an athlete (4 sports in high school and 2 sports in college). Since I was so active I never had a problem with how I looked. After my last year of sports when I didn’t have to workout I started to notice my abs(or lack there of) started to not show as much, muscle definition went away and I just wasn’t confident in how I looked. I remember looking in the mirror (about 1 month before my wedding) and decided it was time to take my healthy and fitness seriously. Honestly, since I was so active I didn’t have to watch what I ate. At that point however, that needed to change..
What activities do you do to keep fit and active?
I love lifting weights and doing HIIT cardio. I also love challenging myself in different ways. I am learning how to do more gymnastic movements and I love to do plyometrics as well. I still have that athlete in me and feel better now than I did in college.
What is your favorite fitness memory?
When I first did a backflip and when I did a 60″ (give or take) box jump!
What is your favorite workout?
Anything High intensity that just involves body weight and challenging. I like to challenge my muscles in different ways like change of direction, speed, agility, explosion…etc. I feel like I have the ability to do or learn anything. If I can’t do it then I’ll keep trying until I have it down.
In what ways do you hope to influence your children through fitness?
I just want to live out the healthy lifestyle in a way that is exciting and fun. I want them to see that it doesn’t have to be so boring and strict. I want them to see how fitness and life are very similar. When things get hard in fitness, the only way you’ll succeed is by pushing yourself.. a lot like life.
What words of encouragement would you have for other dads out there who want to be healthy and fit?
Just make the decision to begin. Start small, start slow and do it for yourself but most importantly for your wife and kids. Don’t do the “fitness thing” just to get results and look good. Do it because by adding these healthy lifestyle habits into your routine it will impact your life in a major way and your family’s life as well. Lastly, no matter how many kids you have it’s always going to be hard to find time to workout. But it’s not about finding time…it’s about making time. If it’s important to you then do whatever you have to. That’s another great way to show to your family how important your health is and by that example you hope they follow your lead.
